Being one of the poorest countries in Latin America, Bolivia struggles with the difficult childhood education situation. There are significant inequalities in the education level between those from urban and rural areas, local and non-local populations, males and females etc… The disparity in access to education is unfortunately reliant on social status, and as a result, LifeTime Projects made a decision to teach in Bolivia.
Presentation of the mission:
LifeTime Projects offers teaching projects in Bolivian schools. During the academic year, volunteers will interact with primary and secondary public schools. Participation in this project is only available during Bolivian teaching periods (summer vacation takes place from December to February, winter vacation lasts for two weeks in June/July).
Working conditions can often be precarious and classrooms overcrowded, but the pupils’ enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge outweighs the challenges which volunteers will face. As such, Bolivian teachers are highly respected and students are grateful towards volunteers because the help given is seen as opening a world of opportunities
Teaching in Bolivia is an exceptional way get in touch with the local culture and population. For the success of your project, it is imperative for you to have a very good level of Spanish.
Knowledge in certain subjects are also highly desired by teachers: English language, music, mathematics, sport, biology etc…
Additionally, if you are nervous about teaching an entire class alone, you can start as an assistant in the classroom of another teacher and take charge when you are ready!
