Background

LifeTime Projects has been working with orphanages in Yaoundé since 2017. Its work consists in helping children to overcome their problems, especially psychological and educational ones.

Considering the successful results of this mission, LifeTime Projects has decided to take the next step by improving the quality of childcare support. Indeed, due to their difficult background, orphans often develop shyness, delayed learning and sometimes even delayed growth.

Inspired by the artistic projects carried out in Bolivia, which had a significant positive impact on , our charity decided to initiate art therapy projects in Cameroon. This complementary project aims to provide orphanages with additional tools to support the children they care for as well as possible.

Presentation of the mission

LifeTime Projects develops art therapy projects in most of the orphanages in which we work. Art therapy is a discipline that helps people express themselves differently, through artistic creation. In Cameroon, we have set up music, dance, arts and crafts and theater workshops in cooperation with local trainers.

Art therapy offers a different pedagogical approach that promotes social interaction and develops children’s artistic skills and sensitivity. By using art as a means of raising awareness, you will be able to interact in an educational way with children. With the help of local trainers, you will be able to address topics that are particularly relevant to children, such as hygiene, non-violent communication, sexual health, children’s rights, and many others.

Your involvement

During this mission, you will organize and lead artistic workshops for children, based on the material available and the local culture. This way, children will be able to take an active part in the activities, and the workshops will be able to continue even after you leave.
You will be supervised by local trainers, who are specialized in the field of art therapy, and who know the children. By talking with them, you will be able to create and propose your own activities.

In Cameroon, the art therapy project is mainly focused on music, dance, theater, and arts and crafts arts. This mission is ideal for people with a certain sensitivity for these artistic activities, both amateur and professional.

As with any assignment in contact with children, it will be necessary to have a prior interview with the association’s referent psychologist.
